Description

What is M193? It is the military’s standard issue ammo for field use in the the M16A1 rifle. And what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, because M193 is also great for training and casual target shooting with an AR-15 rifle.

Winchester makes this 5.56×45 ammo right here in America with their standard Boxer primers and clean-burning powder. Now, a lot of our customers ask if brass cases like these have already been fired. Not at all – the case’s discoloration just shows it was heat-treated at the factory. Military grade ammo often isn’t buffed up before it’s shipped out.

This round’s 3,180 fps muzzle velocity is just a tiny bit slower than the usual M193 round’s 3,250 fps, but at that rate the bullet still hangs onto the flat trajectory you’ll need for good accuracy. The bullet itself is an FMJ. It doesn’t do anything fancy after it hits its target, which isn’t to say an FMJ can’t do a lot of damage even without expanding. But at the end of the day most people would recommend this ammo’s nonmagnetic bullets strictly for target practice.

Rifle Ammunition Overview

Most rifle cartridges in use today originated as hunting or military calibers. As such, they typically provide strong medium or long range performance and relatively stout recoil (which may not be felt as such by the user, if a good pad is fitted to the rifle’s stock).

Ammunition for bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles typically uses necked down cases to fire relatively long, low caliber bullets. Cartridges intended for lever action rifles are distinguished by their use of round-nosed (or polymer-tipped) bullets. This allows the cartridges to sit end to end in the tubular magazines of lever actions without risk of accidental ignition.
